Changing OS Regional Settings using Task Sequence Variables during OS Deployment (Windows XP)
Hi guys, I previously asked this question in relation to Windows 7 deployments here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrosd/thread/d449f6a5-0dc8-44e0-90b6-e64b274b6ee3 The solution was to create TSV's in the Task sequence and the machine installed with the new regional Settings (regardless of which regional settings were set in the WIM file). Now I assumed that the same process would work for Windows XP deployments - however it does not. How do you change the the Regional/Locale settings on Windows XP deployment? Please note that there are a multitude of threads which show how to set regional settings during the creation of the REFERENCE image using an unattended.txt build. I am wanting to know how to change the regional/locale settings during the deployment to those other than what the REFERENCE image was created with. e.g. REFERENCE image uses US as location. I want to change this to NZ during OS Deployment. Thanks!

I am sure someone will link me to Andrew Barnes blog here: http://scriptimus.wordpress.com/2011/04/26/mdt-2010-xp-regional-settings-uk/ However that is also talking about an unattended REFERENCE build - rather than a "here's one I prepared earlier" WIM.

It's been a little while since I've deployed XP, but I thought you could use the same TSV's however XP needed the regional codes in the format 040C:0000409, not the en-au format eg. InputLocale:040C:0000409 UserLocal:0C09 SystemLocale:0C09

Hi Johno I am already using those TSV's InputLocale=1409:00000409 UserLocale=00001409 SystemLocale=00001409 UILanguage=en-US

Hi Michael, Actually I found another article of your that was helpful: http://blog.coretech.dk/mip/working-with-different-languages-in-windows-xp/ Using TSV's in the does not seem to work in XP (only works in Win7). For XP you have to edit the sysprep.inf that is used in the "Apply Operating system" step. Also - I had to add the Timezone property as well to make the regional settings apply. i.e. my sysprep file was as follows: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ; XP SP3 Sysprep.inf file. [Unattended] InstallFilesPath="C:\" [RegionalSettings] ;LanguageGroup=1 Language=00001409 InputLocale=1409:00000409 UserLocale=00001409 SystemLocale=00001409 ;UILanguage=en-US [GuiUnattended] OEMSkipRegional=1 TimeZone=290

If you add those settings as variables, and run the ZTIConfigure.wsf script, the values will automatically be added to Sysprep.inf. It actually works better with win xp as no info will have to be written to Sysprep.inf beforehand, unlike Win7 and Unattend.xml, where the variables must be pre populated!Michael Petersen My Deployment Blog - http://blog.coretech.dk/mip
