Change web site for WSUS within an SCCM environment
I upgraded SMS 2003 sp3 to SCCM 2007. I installed WSUS to the default web site in IIS which is the same web site that SCCM uses. I would like to configure WSUS to use a custom web site with the corresponding custom port so it will be different than the SCCM web site. WSUS and SCCM are both on the same server (hardware). What steps should I take to make this change?

My understanding is that all SCCM site roles on a single box must use the same web site. So, from what I've been told, you'd have to have a remote WSUS box in order to use a different web site than the site server (and actually the site server doesn't use a web site, it would be other roles, such as the management point).

I am not so sure of that, I am using 2 different websites 1 for wsus and 1 for Configuration Manager on the same machine. When you install the WSUS package you are able to choose a new site, and when you install the software update point you need to configure it to use the ports that you configure for your alternate wsus site , default ports are 8530 and 8531. This configuration you do under Site - > Component Configuration - > Software Update Point Component Under the General Tab you have the port configuration. I'll check to see if this is supported for WSUS and SCCM on the same box. But I've always been told that all IIS site sysetms on the same box have to use the same web site. But it may be different for WSUS as it has it's own IIS configuration.

The only reason I am trying to change the WSUS web site is that in reading Microsoft's "Migration Guidance-SMS 2003 ITMU to Configuration Manager 2007" page 15 it states: "When integrating WSUS with Configuration Manager, Microsoft recommends using a custom web site therby reducing the potential conflict with other Configuration Manager site roles...". I understand "recommends" is not the same thing as "must" but I am trying to set up a clean as possible install of SCCM.

And I did get verification that we DO support a different custom web site for WSUS than the rest of Configuration Manager. So it is supported for the SUP role to have a different web site than other site system roles on the same system.

Just ran into this exact issue, and found the fix. Open a command prompt Navigate to your "<wsus install>\tools" directory run the following command: wsusutil usecustomwebsite true That should do it
