Change default save location in a document library
Hello all, I have created a new document library in WSS 3.0 to utilize an excel file that we have stored. I have changed the library template to this excel file, but here's my problem. When I click on "new," the excel file that I replaced the original template with opens, but when I try to "save as" in order to save a copy into the library, the save location defaults to the "form" folder. For the individuals using this library it makes things difficult. I know how to browse one folder back to save into this document library, but the end user will not. So is it possible to change the default save location of this file to the document library folder instead of the forms folder? Example: I would like the file to save to: http://sharepoint/Operations/Operations Plant Turnover/plant turnover.xlsx instead of: http://sharepoint/Operations/Operations Plant Turnover/Forms/plant turnover.xlsx Is this even possible? Thanks, Josh

This is not WSS3 Forum. This is for SP2010. Based on what you have posted, I would recommend that you create a document library with Excel Template (you get to select this when creating) Change the template file to your excel file Test and let us know Blog: Alpesh Nakar's Blog | Twitter: Follow Alpesh on Twitter |SharePoint Resources: Just SharePoint Resource Center | Follow Just SharePoint updates on Twitter

I apologize for posting this in the wrong forum. This document library was created with an excel template and I then changed the template file to my excel file. The result - I create a new document and it attempts to save the output to the "forms" folder that contains the document template, instead of saving it to the document library folder. Example: The file should save to: http://sharepointsite/Operations/Operations Plant Turnover/plant turnover.xlsx but instead it saves to this location: http://sharepointsite/Operations/Operations Plant Turnover/Forms/plant turnover.xlsx

Problem solved. It was the document that I was using that was saving to a different location. I just opened the template and performed a copy/paste from the original document and saved the changes to the template. Since the template is designed to save to the document library... that fixed it.
