Central Site MP?
HiMy client has a hierachy with a central site server & several primary site servers. The central site server is in the same AD site as one of the primaries. Currently, only the primary sites have the MP role installed & the central site client is configured to report to the the primary server that resides in the same AD site as itself. There is currently a debate around best practise & whether the central site server should be made a management point for console functionality reasons. The options are:1. Leave it as it is. (one school of thought is citing this as best practise)2. Make the central site server a management point just for its own client.3. Make the central site server a management point for its own client & each primary client. My client has a number of administrators, and they generally connect their consoles to the central site server. The problems they experience are around those context sensitive console functions that require a MP to be present on the server if they are to work, such as OSD disk media creation, SCCM client push etc etc. They can of course just connect their consoles to one of the primaries to achieve what they need at the time, but...Which of the above options would the community reccomend for this scenario, and would options 2 or 3 really represent poor architecture or an unnaceptable performance hit on the central site server?NB My client also uses SCOM & with the current architecture, the SCCM MP discoveries don't seem to fully understand the hierachy & I wonder whether this might be because the central doesn't have the MP role installed.Any thoughts or comments appreciated.

Hey John, what's with the patronising comments? I misread your comment, I thought you said, ""the central site is configured to report to the the primary" which would make no sense at all. Sorry. On to some serious answer to 1,2 and 3.1. from what I know about the setup i would leave it as is so yes.2. you said it doesn't have clients right? So what clients are there to make it a MP for? I assume you are asking if you should assign some here? I wouldn't,3. each primary site needs to be a MP.John Marcum | http://www.TrueSec.com/en/Training.htm | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jmarcum

I'm not sure what the limitations are around OSD and not having a MP at the central site. If simply adding the MP role would make it eaiser for the guys to work I would add it. It won't hurt anything, it just won't manage any machines because there are no clients to manage at that level.
