Central Administration Site is not opening on the Application Server
I am not able to open the CA from the Application and Web Server. Whenever I try to open it I get the error message "HTTP Error 403 - Forbidden" What possibly could be wrong? My work is stuck as I can access the CA!! thanks, Vaibhav

Is it a fresh install or has it been working?it could be that the Application Pool Identity is configured with the wrong credentials, have you checked that?Jesper

thanks for the suggestions Francesco, but it still doesn't work. The a/c which i use to access the CA is service a/c and seems fine.I was the owner and administrator of the CA site but since I can't access the site so I can't double check this thing. How can I check if the a/c is locked out?thanks again.Vaibhav

HiVaibhav,is there any chance that you could login using the Service Account or the Farm Account? Are you using Kerberos Authentication?Anything useful in the security event log on the server?Regards,James.

Have you checked to see that the windows service "Windows SharePoint Services Administration" is still running? If it isn't running, start it, and if it is, restarting it wouldn't hurt. Also, if you do have a farm account that isn't a local account, try logging in to the server with it and then seeing if Central Administration will open.

I would also go to IIS Management and see if you can browse the CA site from there rather than through your web browser. Maybe check the properties of that web site to see if the application pool that it is using on the Home Directory tab is the correct app pool. If all else fails, I would run the Configuration Wizard again to see if it reprovisions the accounts correctly.

The account you are using to run the app pool has probably had a password expired or locked our event. Try checking that account. This is almost always the case. Check it out in IIS on all Web Front End and App servers in the farm Open IIS > Click on Application Pools > right click the Central Administration app pool > click Advanced Settings > Under the Process Model section click in identity > click the ... button > reenter the domain\username and password.

If you can access CA from a server or client then you know the site is good. If you cannot access it from the App machine that is hosting it you will need to set these http://www.ableblue.com/blog/archive/2009/10/09/backconnectionhostnames-and-disableloopbackcheck/

I would try adding the Central Admin site to the Trusted Sites zone in your browser on the CA server. I'm not sure if this is exactly what you're facing or not, but its something I've seen happen in a lot of environments and present itself much like what you're talking about here.
