Capture image from PXE Boot
I've looked and can't seem to find the answer. I'm trying to capture an existing image and can't get it to work. I created a Task Sequence for Build and Capture and disabled the Build Part. I keep getting errors right from the start. Right now I'm hoping someone has a success story so I know this is a least possible. Do I need to have SMS Client installed or install during the TS? Thanks in advance.

You will have to have the client already installed on the computer to be able to run the TS from full OS.Mayur

Thank you. I also found info here. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrosd/thread/05bc5b9c-704a-497f-8c6c-364618ad55ba/ It talks about using the Media. I'm going to try that. I was trying to do this through PXE. If doing through PXE do I need to have my reference machine already joined to the domain?

Shouldnt be necessary to have it in domain. My preferred method is to create a stand alone media. You dont need to install the client on you base in that case.Mayur

I'll have to second Mayurkirti. I ususally create capture media from the task sequence and capture it that way. I'm not aware of any way to do it from PXE. I usually build the golden image on a Virtual Machine and then capture it using an ISO from the wizard. Any particular reason for the avoidance of the physical media, leaning towards PXE other than the need to avoid creating physical media? Sean

I wanted to use PXE to capture because the systems we are buying do not have CDROMs. I ended up using the Media and a USB drive. All went well. From what I do understand if you want to capture from PXE the system has to be joined to the domain. You also have to start it from a task sequence started when you login. I think it is a permissions thing. You have to be able to authenticate to the domain in some way to ensure the proper rights to read the disk.
