Cannot see documents in library as indicated by the number of Items

Hi, I have 12 documents uploaded to a document library as I can see from the All Documents view. But the number of Items displayed against the list is 50 from the View All Site Content view. Can anyone explain, what are the scenarios in which I see this? Sometime back, I deleted all the documents from this library but i could still see some number of items listed agains the library in View All Site Content view. I have emptied my Recycle Bin as well.
