Cannot save a file to local drive from Sharepoint Explorer View
I'm accessing WSS 2.0. I'm accessing Sharepoint Explorer View (either via mapped drive or Web Client or from a browser Explorer View). I copy a file from WSS 2.0 and save to a local drive, i get this error (or via drag & drop) "Error copying file or folder: Access is denied: Make sure that the disk is not full or write-protected or that the file is not currently in use." I noticed also that i only get this error when i only have read access to a document library. When i have write access to the document library, i don't get this error. Has anyone encountered the same thing? Is it a bug from Microsoft? Any workarounds? Thanks in advance.. any help is much appreciated.

Use IE and right-click when you are over the file name in a normal Doc Lib view do right-click. Then do Save Target As. That should work. Thanks Mike. I have no problem with using IE.. its the WebDav that's the problem. One more thing to add, i can also open up, say an Excel file, from WSS, using Excel, then "Save As" to local.. that works. I just can't copy via WebDAV from WSS to my local drive.

Try this article to create mapping files and verify if you can copy: http://stemrc.aihec.org/SharePoint%20Tips%20and%20Tricks/Creating%20a%20Windows%20Drive%20Mapping%20for%20a%20SharePoint%20Document%20Library.pdf Andr Lage Microsoft SharePoint and CRM Consultant Blog:http://aaclage.blogspot.com Codeplex:http://spupload.codeplex.com/http://simplecamlsearch.codeplex.com/

Thanks Andre but that's not the problem.. i can map a drive to WSS 2.0. Let me start again with more details. I CANNOT copy a file from WSS 2.0 to my local drive using (a) mapped drive from windows explorer or (b) using a browser with explorer view - I only have READ access to the document library i'm copying from - client is XP SP3 - web client service is running on client - the error message is "Error copying file or folder: Access is denied: Make sure that the disk is not full or write-protected or that the file is not currently in use." But using the same mapped drive or browser explorer view - I can browse through WSS sites and doc libs - I can list files, view files, open MsOffice files with MsOffice - When file opened with MsOffice, i can "Save As" the opened file to local drive via MsOffice - eg. if i open an Excel file, and save the Excel file to local drive using "Save As" from MS Excel I CAN copy a file from WSS 2.0 to my local drive - if everything else above is the same - EXCEPT i have WRITE access to the document library On the WSS web server - installed WSS 2.0 SP2 - OS is Windows 2003 Std server SP2 - IIS 6.0 with webdav enabled So the difference i found out is If i have READ access to a doc lib, i CANNOT copy from WSS to local drive via WebDAV. If i have WRITE access to a doc lib, i CAN copy from WSS to local drive via WebDAV. Help? Anyone?
