Cannot read draft file unless checked out
I have got a document library that allows all users with Edit permission to view draft items. However, some of the documents show up an error message when I try to open them in Word: "'http://myportal/library/filename.docx' does not exist. Check your spelling or try another path" This happens even though the file is checked in. I was the last person to check it out and modify it. If I check the file out, I can open it without problems. It's only checked in draft files that bring up the error message. In the library settings "Require documents to be checked out before they can be edited" is switched off.

Hi andreasbbbbb, You might see the aforementioned errors if Word 2007 is having a conflict with antivirus software. Most of these conflicts have been addressed by the antivirus software manufacturers, but you must download and install updates or patches for the antivirus software (not just new virus definitions) to resolve the issue. See the software manufacturer's web site for possible updates and for knowledge base articles concerning configuration issues. You can refer to the following blog post to get detailed information and solution for this problem: http://blogs.technet.com/b/ryan_christiansen/archive/2008/04/28/word-2007-file-save-errors-an-error-is-displayed-when-attempting-to-save-a-word-document.aspx. Hi Peng, it's actually happening on Word 2010, not 2007. Nonetheless, I turned off the Antivirus programs on my computer (Symantec EndPoint and AVG Link Scanner) and tried opening the files, but the same error continues to come up. Andreas.

We had the same problem and we tracked it down to the Microsoft Office Upload Centre's Cache. If you go into the settings of the upload centre, delete the cache and check the 'Delete files from the document cache when they are closed' option. It should resolve the issue and prevent it from reoccuring.
