Hi, According to the log you posted, it can be the problem with Windows Installer service on the Windows Server 2008. You can try restarting the service. In addition, if there is any additional log, please paste here so that we can analyze it.Vivian Xing - MSFT

I figured it was a Windows Installer issue. I just wasn't sure why I'd be having this problem on a brand new system. The rest of the log is several pages (like 50) and I don't think it'd fit on here. I tried restarting the service and rebooting - same result.

I am just trying to install SCE2010 and I got the exact same error. I am installing it on a fresh installation of Windows Server 2008 R2 X64 standard edition with 2GB of RAM and 1 CPU presented on a VMware vSphere 4 server. If anyone has some insight into getting around this issue please let me know.

Yeah - I probably should have clarified that I am installing this on a VM in Hyper-V. I am pretty sure there is something very wrong with this install. I actually built a new server from scratch and tried again with the exact same problem. I have also tried different media. Has anyone actually gotten the current version of SCE 2010 to install?

You are awesome Vivian! I unchecked the update box and the install completely successfully. Thanks so much!

Regarding the error 1603, one other thing you might want to look at: If you have had SCE 2007 installed on the machine AND you still have the old Agent installed, that will also cause SCE 2010 to throw this error. Found that out the hard way. Uninstalling the old Agent got me past that error. :)
