Cannot get my SharePoint Service 3.0 and SharePoint Server 2007 to work with my Office Pro 2007 32-bit version (written for XP, but certified for Vista).
I originally bought Office Pro 2007 32-bit version for my older PC with WindowsXP Operating System. Then, I bought a new PC with an i7 processor with Vista. Because I am in school I was able to get both SharePoint Designer 2007, SharePoint Server 2007, and SharePoint Services 3.0. The SharePoint Designer 2007 works well. However, the SharePoint Server 2007 and SharePoint Services 3.0 say they will not work with the 32-bit version of my Office Pro 2007 applications. So far I have not been able to find where I may download a 64-bit upgrade to my Office Pro 2007 or a workaround for SharePoint. I chatted with a Microsoft representative but he was unable to help. This was frustrating because it cost $500.00 for the software and I do not have another $500.00 to spend on the 64-bit version of Office Pro 2007 after what I spent to get a newer system. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you, Micheal4545

SharePoint Server 2007 and SharePoint Services 3.0 are both products that need to be installed on a server. You can't install them on Vista, if that is what you are trying to do. It has nothing to do with Office 2007 being 32-bit. here's the list of hardware and software requirements for SharePoint 2007. As you will see it requires at least Windows Server 2003 for installation. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262485(office.12).aspx If you are not trying to load them on your Vista PC, then please explain further where you are seeing this error. Both SharePoint Server 2007 and SharePoint Services 3.0 work fully with Office 2007 32 bit clients.Paul Stork SharePoint Server MVP

Thanks Paul, I could not get SQL Server 3.0 sp1 to load on either of my systems. However, I now have a copy of Windows 7 Professional and may soon install it on my HP Notebook that has Viata on it now. I am hoping this will help alleviate my SharePoint Server and Services issue on at least one of my computers. My wife is completing a Masters Degree online using our main system (HP Elite with an i7 quad processor) and does not want me to mess with it for fear of something going wrong. She rarely uses the Notebook. I hope Windows 7 helps with the Notebook. Micheal .................

What is SQL Server 3.0? I don't think SQL has been back in the 3.0 range in over 20 years. Also, you need to be aware that SP1 means service pack 1. Service Packs are meant for patching existing software, not for initial installs. I'm not sure what you were trying to do, or why it failed, without more info. Make sure your copy of Windows 7 Professional is 64 bit (since it comes both 32 and 64 bit). SharePoint requires a 64 bit OS. You can check my Blog for a Step by step set of instructions for installing SharePoint on Windows 7. http://www.dontpapanic.com/blog/?p=96Paul Stork SharePoint Server MVP

Sorry Paul, My mistake. It has been a horrible last two months (Rear-ended by a drunk driver). Everytime I try to install SharePoint Server 2007 or SharePoint Services 3.0 on my Notebook (Intel Core DUO Processors w/ Vista), it tells me that I need Windows Server 2003 SP1 (Service Pack 1). I tried to install Windows Server 2003 SP1 on my system and it failed. It flashed to Command Screen so fast I could not read it. Tried the same process on my Desktop system (i7 Quad Core Processors w/Vista) and it also fails the same way. I suspect that I will need to download and install Windows Server 2003 (either 64-bit edition or x64 Standard Edition - not sure which one to choose). However, I cannot find a download for Windows Server 2003 without the SP1 anywhere on Microsoft's download website. I know this is not rocket science but it is becoming annoying and frustatiing. Mainly, because I need to become more knowledgeable user with SharePoint (as a user and developer) so I may update to SharePoint 2010 which I already have. I definitely appreciate you hanging in there with me. Best regards, Micheal Petroni ............................. http://www.documentfactoryllc.com

You can't install WSS 3.0 or MOSS 2007 (SharePoint Server) on Vista. For that you would need at least SharePoint Foundation 2010. To install any of the SharePoint 2007 products you need either Windows Server 2003 or 2008. I doubt you want to try to install either of them directly on your laptop or desktop. You can however install them in a virtual machine on your laptop and then install the SharePoint Product of your choice on the server operating system in the laptop. Take a look at the following blog that explains the process: http://weblogs.asp.net/erobillard/archive/2007/02/23/build-a-sharepoint-development-machine.aspx Paul Stork SharePoint Server MVP
