Cannot create list item in Datasheet view
Environment:Two WFE's Load balanced behind a virtual URLWSS 3.0 farm.Clients:IE 6, Win XPOffice 2003 and Office 2007 (problem affects both)Problem Description:While in Datasheet view of a list, a user enters data on a new row. The user then tries to click out of that row which essentially saves the list item but is not able to. A dialogue box pops up with the following message:"The Access Web Datasheet is attempting to retrieve data from a different domain. You will be redirected to an error page. Contact your system administrator to resolve this error."This problem affects all lists in the Datasheet view and all Office 2003 & 2007 clients. Both WFE's and the users are on the local area network.Any tips on how to go about troubleshooting this would be greatly appreciated.

This turned out to be related to Alternate Access Mappings. There were actually a number of bugs fixed once I got the AAM properly set up. Specifically, I was loadbalancing with virtual.domain.com:443 to WFE1.company.com:8001 and WFE2.company.com:8001. In other words, IIS was listening on port 8001 for each of my web apps, but the virtual was listening on port 443 so users could type in https://virtual.domain.com. Traffic would get sprayed from our load balancer to one of the IIS sites on 8001.When I created the web app I filled in the field for the load balanced URL (virtual.domain.com:443) and this seemed to work for 99% of the functionality. Unfortunately due to the way our load balancer works, I had to add an Internal URL (select "Add Internal URL" from the Alternate Access Mappings screen). The internal URL I needed to add was https://virtual.domain.com:8001 and the problems went away.

So glad you posted this. It got me looking at my AAM and found that I had not created an entry that matched my DNS entry. As soon as I fixed AAM it started working like a champ. Thanks again!

I just wanted to add to this...Not as a solution, but to state that this also fixed a seemingly unrelated error: ISSUE: Tasks not sending email alerts. Environment/Configuration: WSS 3.0. Standalone on W2K8, using WID Outgoing email: Configured Task Email Alerting Enabled TimeJob Status: Succeed AAM Configuration: Internal URL = http://siteA RESOLUTION: Add Interal URL with FQDN: Central Administration/Operations/Alternate Access Mappings/ Add Internal URLS http://siteA.mycompanyname.com TASK EMAIL ALERTS start working.
