Cannot create content database: The specified SPConfigurationDatabase Name=SharePoint_Config Parent=SPDatabaseServiceInstance has been upgraded to a newer version of SharePoint. Please upgrade this SharePoint application server
Guys,
This is the farm configuration:
1. SQL Server 2005 back end server
2. WSS 3.0 / MOSS 2007 WFE Server
3. WSS 3.0 / MOSS 2007 Index/WFE Server
All servers are showing the version: 12.0.0.6327 in 'Servers in Farm' in C.A.
When attempting to add a new content database, the following error is thrown in the web UI:
The specified SPConfigurationDatabase Name=SharePoint_Config-New Parent=SPDatabaseServiceInstance has been upgraded to a newer version of SharePoint. Please upgrade this SharePoint application server before
attempting to access this object.
Furthermore the following is posted to the application event log on the WFE hosting central admin:
Database 'SharePoint_Config-New' on SQL Server instance 'XXXXXXXX' is not empty and does not match current database schema.
There is nothing of further interest in the trace log, just the same error as above.
No errors on the SQL server either.
Also no updates have been installed, and content databases HAVE been created since the last updates were installed 2 years ago.
Can anyone suggest anything before I raise a call with MS?
I have checked permissions for the sharepoint system account on the databases and all seems fine.
Cheers,
Conrad

Hi Conrad,
Take a look at the registry on theSharePoint Servers for the following
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office Server\12.0\BuildVersion\12.0.6425.1000
where the build version on your environment will be different than the one I used in the example...
As lomg as you do not disconnect from the configuration database, you can run the Configuration Wizard to repair an installation... However, we havent determined the all of the issue at this point and it would be better to wait..
Please ping back the post with what you find the BuildVersion is from the registry on the SharePoint Servers..
Cheers,
Ivan

Hi Conrad,
Yeah, I would install WSS SP2 and MOSS SP2 then run psconfig. Next install the August 2010 CU for WSS and MOSS version 12.0.6545.5001..
The Full Server Packages for ShaqrePoint 2007 SP2 and teh SharePoint August 2010 CU can be downloaded form thelinks below:
Description of Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 SP2 and of Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Language Pack SP2
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953338
Description of 2007 Microsoft Office servers Service Pack 2 (SP2) and of 2007 Microsoft Office servers Language Pack Service Pack 2 (SP2)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953334
Description of the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Cumulative Update Server Hotfix Package (WSS server-package): August 31, 2010

Description of the Office SharePoint Server 2007 Cumulative Update server hotfix package (MOSS server-package): August 31, 2010

Remeber that PSConfig has to be run on each server seperately and only after both the WSS and MOSS updates have been appilied. There probably is not an issue with installaing the binaries for both SP2 and the August
U prior to psconfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b-wait on each system. As this is what a slipstrema installation would acheive. however, I havent treied it so run psconfig after SP2 and after the August CU...

Hi Conrad,
Yes,
1. Install WSS3SP2 & MOSSSP2 Binaries on All Servers
2. Run psconfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait on one server at time, starting with
the application server.
3. Install WSS3 August 2010 CU & MOSS August 2010 CU Binaries on All Servers
4. Run psconfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b –wait on one server at time, starting
with the application server.
You should be able to skip item 2, I’m just being cautious.
I can’t find the article and have only completed the Upgrade this way a few times , there were not any issue but i would rather be cautious. In addition, when you slipstream
an installation your only running the Wizard one time per server on initial configuration and to join the farm...The SlipStreamed Intstallation contains all of the patches / upgrades…
Cheers,
