Hello, Authoring > Groups > xxx - Desktops > Right Click Properties > Dynamic Members Tab > Create/Edit Rules > Browse > Management Server > Add > Browse > (Host=Windows Computer) > NetworkName I did this but what to input in Operator and Value for the Property "Windows Computer.Network Name"? If I input the Management Server name it will give me only this Server, which is not what I am looking for... I need to have a Group of ALL machines having the Management Server A as Primary Management Server. Hi Dan, So let me reword my question: How to create a Group of machines per Management Server? This is essential for us as each Management Server are used and managed by different team. Thanks, DomSystem Center Operations Manager 2007 / System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2 Support

i think the criteria shouldn't be where the agent is reporting to and it's definitely not needed to do this. scoping of machines works regardless on which ms they are reporting too. Are there other criteria that can be used (like domain or servername pattern)? We've created a regkey containing a name on each server. Then extended windows computer with this property and created groups based on the name and finally create scopes for operators based on these groups. that said, i think you could create a sql based discovery for these group discoveries, but i'm not sure if this is a good idea. btw if you are going to scope operators on windows computers they don't automatically see heartbeat failures and server down alerts or virtual servers. Easy as pie. Just create a group and add the servers for each group to the server. As a later post suggests, you can do things programatically, but that takes a custom MP with a script, or use registry key attributes to drive membership. That would take deploying registry keys to each server. You defninitely need to know which servers are involved in the groups you want to create.Microsoft Corporation

Hi Rob, "i think the criteria shouldn't be where the agent is reporting to and it's definitely not needed to do this. scoping of machines works regardless on which ms they are reporting too. Are there other criteria that can be used (like domain or servername pattern)?" The issue with this is the Architecture has been designed by Microsoft to fit the Departmental Team within our organization. Most of the machines are in the same Domain for all departments. The Server names are defined per application, the desktops names are defined per location. A department will manage Servers and Desktops from different applications and different locations, usualy there is small overlap for an application to be shared between departments. So far the design was done that a Management Server is handle by only one department. "We've created a regkey containing a name on each server. Then extended windows computer with this property and created groups based on the name and finally create scopes for operators based on these groups." This seems to be a great idea :) "btw if you are going to scope operators on windows computers they don't automatically see heartbeat failures and server down alerts or virtual servers. See http://blogs.msdn.com/steverac/archive/2008/10/17/grouping-windows-computer-objects-and-associated-health-service-watcher-object.aspx or my blog." I will review this as effectively there is an impact... Thanks,DomSystem Center Operations Manager 2007 / System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2 Support

Still getting a new request the same how to split machine per Management Server to be used within groups, SLO, Dashboard ?? The Direct membership is it the input of each server/ desktop one by one? if so it is not applicable for 10,000 machines it will take for ever and any new machine will be forgotten. A dynamic collection/ group needs to be created one way or another to do this or we loose the benefit of splitting the dashboard per department. Thanks?
