hi, check for the below mentioned points. 1. check whether your SQL Server Agent is running or not. 2. check for IIS, whether it is configured in IIS 5.0 islolation mode 3. check for Application pool permissions to connect to SQL DB 4. it might be a network connectivity issue between WSS and SQL server

Hi Akilaskk, The configuration database is where SharePoint stores all information about the SharePoint installation and the server farm, hence, it is required for the Central Administration to work fine. But I have a couple for questions: 1. Is any of the SharePoint sites working fine? 2. Did this happen after the first installation? 3. Have you verified that all SQL related services are up and running fine. 4. What version of SQL server are you using? The several times I have encountered something like this, I had to go to restart the MSSQLServer service. You may check it out on your case too. Note that a server will reply you if you ping it but will not give you access to a DB if the DB related services are down. Cheers.

Hi, Try to run the SharePoint configuration wizard once, follow these steps for the same: 1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd in the Open box, and then click OK. 2. Change to the following directory: system drive\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\Bin 3. Run the following command: psconfig -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b For reference, also check out this helpful discussion: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointadmin/thread/944f3b3e-0a28-4c6b-a9d8-5194e00033ab Does it work now? Usually when this happens you will have a ton of errors in your event viewer. I would also check there to see what errors are being reported. Usually when we see this there is either an issue with the application pool, or most likely the credentials you are using to log into sql are not working. The event viewer should tell you what the issue is (sql rejecting the connection, bad username/pw, etc) Let us know what errors you are getting.
