Cannot connect to the configuration database.
Hi All, We are facing "Unable to connect configDb" error in WSS 3.0, since yesterday morning. This error came at random and now we are not able to open any website including central admin. Tried different scenario but still not working. We need to make it up without fail so any input from your side will help us a lot. Scenerio tried : 1. Started all WSS 3.0 related services but Window sharepoint services administrator is not starting, flashing error "Could not start the Windows SharePoint Services Administration service on Local Computer. Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.". 2. Repaired the WSS 3.0 basic installation but still it didn't worked. 3. Tried to run sharepoint Products and Technologies configuration wizard using below mentioned command psconfig -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b also psconfig -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -force -wait but it flash error as Total number of configuration settings run: 1Total number of successful configuration settings: 0Total number of unsuccessful configuration settings: 3Successfully stopped the configuration of SharePoint Products and Technologies.Configuration of SharePoint Products and Technologies failed. Configuration must be performed before you use SharePoint Products and Technologies. Did you install any security patches? Perhaps auto installation is set on one of your servers, event log should make that clear. if so, I'd run the "SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard". Hi there. Have you looked at the account that runs the Central Admin App Pool, is its credentials working as they should? (Password expired, etc). Does this account have necessary permissions on the SQL server DBs? Regards, MagnusMy blog: InsomniacGeek.com

Hi Magnus, Have changed Central Admin App Pool account from Network service to domain administrator( administrator password is not expired , etc). Administartor have necessary privelege in SQL DB. Till day before yesterday night it was working fine this problem came at random, check the vent log of that particulat time. Logged error in the event log is: Error related to WSS in event log: Event ID: 2424 Event Type: Gatherer Event Description: The update cannot be started because the content sources cannot be accessed. Fix the errors and try the update again. Context: Application 'Search', Catalog 'index file on the search server Search' Please help its urgency..................................... Regards, Anup
