Cannot connect to the configuration database.
Environment WSS 3.0 stand alone installed on Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard. A lot of updates like KB982666,KB2467659,KB2419640 were installed and from then we are getting the error "Cannot connect to the configuration database." Have tried IISreset , and psconfig -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait -force , we get the following error An exception of type System.InvalidOperationException was thrown. Additional ex ception information: Cannot start service SPTimerV3 on computer '.'. Total number of configuration settings run: 3 Total number of successful configuration settings: 2 Total number of unsuccessful configuration settings: 1 Successfully stopped the configuration of SharePoint Products and Technologies. Configuration of SharePoint Products and Technologies failed. Configuration mus t be performed before you use SharePoint Products and Technologies. For further details, see the diagnostic log located at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Micros oft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\LOGS\PSCDiagnostics_1_7_2009_9_40_58_104_182 0900716.log and the application event log. Any help would be greatly apprecitated. Thanks!

Hi, According to your description, I suggest that you should Modify the service timeout values in the Registry after that: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control add/modify DWORD value ServicesPipeTimeout to 60000 (60 seconds) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control add/modify STRING value WaitToKillServiceTimeout to 120000 (120 seconds) Restart the server machine.
