Cannot connect to SSRS from SSMS (The RPC server is unavailable)
Dear all, I have a new laptop with Windows 7 x64 and just installed SQL Server 2008R2 developer edition (Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (RTM) - 10.50.1600.1 (X64)). All services are there and all are running. Connecting to the database server and the analysis server works fine, but connecting to the report server does not. The error message I get is: TITLE: Connect to Server Cannot connect to (local). ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: An unexpected error has occurred. Details: The RPC server is unavailable. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BA) (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.RSClient) Also, using Internet Explorer (run as administrator) browsing to http://<MyLaptopName>/reports does not work. I get a page not found error. Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage What you can try: Diagnose Connection Problems I checked the report server log file that is written when starting the service, but no errors or warnings there. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Edgar Walther

Hi Edgar, It seemed that you first connect this Reporting Services. If so, it might caused because you did not configure it. Please follow these steps to configure your Reporting Services: 1. Open Reporting Services Configuration Manager tool from Start menu->All Programs->Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2->Configuration Tools->Reporting Services Configuration Manager. 2. Click Database to ensure you have setted up a report server database on the SQL Server, follow http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms156305.aspx for other configurations. After the configuration, you should be able to access the reporting services. thanks, Jerry
