Cannot connect to SSRS Report Manager
Hi, I have recently installed SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer on my Windows 7 Pro PC. I installed a named instance called ARGENTOSQL. I want to connect to my Report Manager and have been following the instructions in the following article (which worked for me previously when doing the same thing on my laptop running Windows 7 Home and SQL Server 2008 Developer): http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb630430.aspx Unfortunately, despite running Internet Explorer as Administrator, adding http://MyPC to trusted sites, navigating to the Report Manager URL http://MyPC:80/Reports_ARGENTOSQL, then (when prompted) entering my Windows user authentication (user account Ian - an administrator account on my local machine), I cannot shake the following error message displayed in the browser: User 'Ian-HP\Ian' does not have required permissions. Verify that sufficient permissions have been granted and Windows User Account Control (UAC) restrictions have been addressed. If there are any experts out there reading this who know what's causing this or can provide me with a list of things to check/do, I will be very grateful. :-) Ian.

Hi, To verify the URL you are using is correct, 1. open reporting services configuration manager (all program-->microsoft sql server 2008-->configuration tools-->reporting services configuration manager. 2. choose the server and instance and connect 3. click on the web service url on the left pane 4. observe the URLs in report server web service URLs 5. Please check the URL you are using matches with the one you trying. 6. by clicking the report manager tab on the left pane, you can find the URLs for report manager as well. hope this helps. regards Please click "Mark as Answer" if this resolves your problem or "Vote as Helpful" if you find it helpful. Hi, According to Reporting Services Configuration Manager, the web service URL is http://Ian-HP:80/ReportServer_ARGENTOSQL and the report manager URL is http://Ian-HP:80/Reports_ARGENTOSQL. This is because when I installed SQL Server 2008 R2, I went with a named instance rather than the default. Following both links take me to a Reporting Services site telling me the permissions granted to my user account are insufficient. The usual default, http://localhost/Reports doesn't work (web page cannot be found) because there is no default instance on this machine. Thanks for your help. Do you have any other suggestions? Ian.

Hi Ian, I suspect that the account 'Ian-HP\Ian' was not the account used when you installed the SQL Server reporting services, that might be local admin on the machine, so it is true that the account 'Ian-HP\Ian' does not have sufficient permissions to access report manager/server. If so, please logout the machine and re-login the machine and open report manager using local admin to grant the account 'Ian-HP\Ian' proper permissions, then use this account to logon report manager/server for required operations. thanks, Jerry

Hi Jerry, Thanks for your response. I'm sure that Ian-HP\Ian was the account I installed SQL Server under. The installation was done on my PC (which was newly purchased a week or so ago) and this is the only account I log on with (the built-in local Administrator account is disabled by default). I was able to crack the problem in the end by disabling UAC temporarily (http://www.petri.co.il/disable_uac_in_windows_vista.htm). With UAC disabled, I was then able to connect to Report Manager without the "insufficient permissions" message and from there I added my account to the System Administrator role in Site Settings and the Content Manager role in Folder Settings. Once done, I restored UAC to its default security level, rebooted and was then able to access Report Manager (and the reports I've now deployed there) without any problem. Thanks again... Ian
