Cannot add item to folder of custom list via datasheet
On a MOSS 2007 site, I have a custom list (not a document library) that contains folders. The folders are used to manage permissions. User groups have read-only permissions at the list (root) level, then contribute permissions at the individual folder level. So far, so good. The new and edit forms all work as expected ... only on the given folder. All is well, until attempting to add a record to a folder in datasheet mode (a requirement). It fails with an access denied message. Note that viewing and editing existing records via datasheet works perfectly fine. As a test, I granted contribute permissions at the list (root) level. The user can now add records to their folder. But now, they can add records to ANY folder, even those for which they have no permissions at all (other than read-only)! Note that on the other folders, they cannot edit or delete existing records ... only add. My conclusion is that ONLY for the add function, and ONLY in datasheet mode, it is using permissions from the root level and ignoring the folder level permissions. Can anyone else confirm this behavior? Is there a solution?

Hi, It is a known issue that If a user only has Contributor permission on a folder in an Office SharePoint list, they cannot add new items when they are in Datasheet View. The issue has been fixed in the hotfix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/981040 Regards, Xue-Mei Change TechNet Subscriber Support in forum If you have any feedback on our support, please contacttnmff@microsoft.com.
