Cannot add a new MOSS 2007 front-end server to an existing MOSS 2007 farm.
I have two existing Windows 2008 sp2 64-bit servers in my MOSS 2007 farm. One front and one backend. Running SQL 2008 sp1 64bit. Noticed that the nic cards on the front-end server are not showing up in Network connections. Dinked with it for two weeks had HP replace the system board (a bit of overkill) but no avail. I figured I'd just install a new front-end server move everything over to it and rebuild the problematic unit. Sounded like a simple chore, nope. Built up a new server, plenty of hp, ram and disk for this task. Loaded the OS - W2k8 x64, sp2 and all patches. Added the Web server role to it, then added .Net Framework. All was going to plan. Then I loaded MOSS 2007 w/sp1, looked ok so far, connected to the database and so on. It launched the PSConfig utility and was going through the first of 7 steps when it died in the middle of step 4. Somewhere after the SSP Job Control Service. Thought maybe it was a service pack issue so I applied sp2 to MOSS, made it worse. Ripped it all out, started over, downloaded a version with sp2 already installed thinking maybe...but no. I see this error message repeatedly: '12.0.0.0' is an unexpected token. The expected token is '"' or '''. Line 1, position 8032. I have several trace files but not sure how to attach them. I pasted them in initially but it was too long. Much appreciate any assistance on this matter. We're just about stumped. If I can provide any other useful information please just ask what else is needed.
