Hello, I have installed scom 2007 R2 on windows 2008 R2 server. I have installed GPRS modem on Com1. Unfortunately I received this critical Alert Notification subsystem failed to send notification using device/server 'Standard 56000 bps Modem' over 'SMS' protocol to 'my mobile phone'. Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.HealthService.Modules.Notification.SmsNotificationException: Sms error 'Device handle unavailable' (16018). Rule id: Subscription93e257f4_edcb_48a3_9c2f_76ae8cccf16a Can someone help me? Do I need specific Modem, maybe USB connection?

It looks like a driver\modem setting issue for me. 'Standard 56000 bps Modem' - try to select a lower modem speed, alot of such devices 'doesn't like' a high speed. Try to select 11800 or even 9200 in a modem settings. Hello Marc, the modem is working outside SCOM, using PUTTY, I can send SMS via this way, but doen't work inside SCOM 2007 R2. SMS channel, subscribers and subcriptions looks ok inside SCOM. Thank you for your help and idea. Ragards. Angel

Hi Angel, so I understand that within SCOM you created a script based channel, right? So whenever an alert gets sent you push it into the script. The script talks via putty to the box sending the SMS. Have you tried first making a check inside that script by passing the incoming data to a txt file, followed by the outgoing command you are sending also to a txt file? This is how I test all my script based channels (and of course when it works I just comment those lines that write logs). Also to make sure the alerts are flowing into the script and pass data and that your conversion into a command also works (and outputs the command). I made a rookie mistake, in fact, the modem speed was set to 9600 from AT commands, the Windows modem driver was standard 56000bps Modem and I set the Maximum Port speed to 9600 bps. This configuration was not working in SCOM 2007 R2. I just change the driver modem to Standard 9600 bps, maximum port speed to 9600, and I received SMS. This configuration was not working in SCOM 2007 R2, but works from PUTTY (freeware) I just change the driver modem to Standard 9600 bps, maximum port speed to 9600, and I received SMS from SCOM 2007 R2.
