Cannot Import data into existing list.
I created a site using the "Call Center" template. Now I want to pre-populate the Customer list from a list of users I have in another table in Access. So using Access 2003 I first create a linked table to the Customer list in sharepoint. Then I tried to create an append query to populate the list, but the Customer list is not showing up as a table to append to in Access.
Also, I tried to open the customer list "Linked-Table" manually in Access so I can enter a new record. But Access won't let me enter a new row.
Can anyone help?

I was able to use Access 2007 to do it.
But I am curious now -- what are the steps if I were to use Excel to import into an existing list?

When creating a list under "Custom Lists" there is a option "Importing Spreadsheet". I tried this once quite a while agobut as I recall I didn't like the end result. SP builds all the columns for you which is nice but you can not control the column type it uses, at least not that I am aware of.If the source data is small enough and you have already created your tables/columns you can use the datasheet view and copy past from an .xls file straight into the list. Crude but it is nice for quick data population.

Hi All,
The "Import Spreadsheet" functionality creates a whole new list from the excel data. In order to import data into an
existing list you can use Access 2007 and create an update query or you can use Magic - An import Wizard for SharePoint - a application we developed. It allows you to easily import data from various sources into existing SharePoint lists. You can even
use it to import data from one SharePoint list to another, or migrate data from lists in one version of SharePoint to a different list in a different version of SharePoint.
You can download a trial version of Magic - An Import Wizard for SharePoint here:
http://www.rddevsolutions.com.
I hope this application makes moving data into SharePoint much easier. Try it and let us know how it works for you.
Thanks!
