Can you use Aladdin Software SafeWord as a Sharepoint authenticator?
A customer has an Internet facing Windows 2008 64-bit server, running Sharepoint 2007. AD is not running, only local computer accounts for Sharepoint, SQL, etc. They are wanting to implement SafeWord Tokens (FOBs) as an authenticator method for Sharepoint. Aladdin has sold their product saying that the product *should* work, not that it *will* work, so they have no experience setting up authentication for their product with Sharepoint. I assume the web.config needs to be modified to work with SafeWord. Anyway, wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this already, or if anyone has any thoughts in what direction to move in to figure out if this product will even work as an Authenticator. Thanks!Rod Rod Trent http://www.myITforum.com System Center community

Hi Rod, To be honest, I have never used SafeWord, and I could not find any related cases in our internal case database either. There are two articles give an deep explanation on how authentication works in SharePoint, hope it could give you some directions. Identity and Access Strategies for SharePoint Products and Technologies (Part 1): Membership and Provider Architecture (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd878353.aspx) Identity and Access Strategies for SharePoint Products and Technologies (Part 2): Membership and Role Provider Assignment (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd897500.aspx) Hope the information can be helpful. Thanks, Lambert! The Alladin folks are not the best to work with so I was hoping there might be someone who has done this already. Alladin indicated that they do not support SharePoint authentication, so I'm not going be able to get any authentication code or plug-ins from them. Thanks for the links. I'll delve into them and see what I can come up with.Alladin suggests that their Radius plug-in is the way to go, yet they can't seem to get that working. And, then, of course, SharePoint has to be modified (webconfig) to recognize Radius as an authenticator.A quick question...instead of SafeWord (Alladin), do you happen to have any other internal tickets from customers who got SharePoint working with any other type of security token (another vendor's offering)?Rod Trent http://www.myITforum.com System Center community

Hi Rod, I'm the product manager of SafeWord with Safenet. We have a good solution for the scenario you described authenticating users to Saherpoint and other MS services. We recommend using ISA or Forefront TMG using it's built in support for RADIUS-OTP authentication. Either the SafeWord stand-alone RAIDUS server or the SafeWord IAS Agent can then be configured in ISA or TMG to perform 2-factor authentication. I can share a document on how to configure this and/or get you with one of our experts form more details and supporting you on this. hope it helps, let me know if you need any help with SafeWord. Hi, Ran.Yes, please share the document that you have. This is a Windows 2008 server. Will the ISA agent work with the new Radius server provided by Windows 2008?Rod Trent http://www.myITforum.com System Center community
