Can you install MOSS 2007 32-bit on Windows 2003 64-bit with IIS 6.0 configured for 32-bit?
We would like to run another 32-bit .NET Web Services App on the same server as SharePoint. The server is Running Windows 2003 EE 64-bit so we have IIS 6.0 configured to run in 32-bit mode. Is it possible to install MOSS 2007 32-bit on this configuration. Or will we need to change Windows to 32-bit? Thanks

Maybe i shouldn't ask, but why did you ever install a 64bit server when you want to run a 32bit service with iis in 32 bit mode ?I myself should consider the following:- Sharepoint will run fine on 64 bit, so if you have 64bit software, use it for sharepoint.- The 32bitservice > can it be run on a dedicated 32 bit server ?- is the 32-bit service the only software running on the 64bit server ? consider using an othermachine.- Are you going to develop a lot of sharepointfeatures? consider using a 32 bit sharepoint server (it's difficult debugging 32bit features on a 64 bit machine)- not every 64bit machine (hardware) can emulate 32bit software environmentHope this will help making the right decission

We are working with a customer and originally proposed a two tier solution with one tier/farm of SharePoint Servers hosting SharePoint apps that make web services calls to another tier/farm of web services servers running a 32-bit web service. Because of various issues the client wishes to run the web service on the same machine as the SharePoint app.The client wishes to standardize on 64-bit Windows 2003 EE for this. I am researching 1) is this technichally feasable, and 2) what are the advantages/disadvantages.From other forums it seems that this is possible on Windows 2008 64-bit and IIS 7.0. And one thread said this could not be done on Windows 2003 64-bit but I am not sure of the accuracy/wanted to double check the information. Thanks

Why would you recommend or allow deployment of the Windows Server 2003 OS, its 8 years old and out of mainstream support... Have you tried installing and testing the WebServices on an x64 OS? If the WebServices only work on an x86 platform then you should consider keeping the x86 apps on an x86 OS or deploying the x86 version of SharePoint 2007 on an x86 OS... I never tried, Though I have read the same documentation on some blog, its wrong as there would be many changes the installer and or PSConfig does not make and the blog does not mention manually changing them.. -IvanIvan Sanders My LinkedIn Profile, My Blog, @iasanders.
