Can you access files on sharepoint from remote computer without being on the domain
We are using 3.0 sharepoint services. Can I access this remotely from machines that are not connected to the domain and be able to use file versioning and connect to files and folders?

"from machines that are not connected to the domain" - This is too vague a statement to give you a silver bullet, so... You setup anonymous access and/or expose your site externally, then you should be able to use ALL of the functionality that wss 3.0 offers. Or VPN to connect internally. Or maybe a citrix deal. Or ... I'm out of or's.Steve Clark, MCTS | Twin-Soft.com

That is what I was implying with "expose your site externally". Steve Clark, MCTS | Twin-Soft.com

Short answer is yes. Here is what you have to consider- 1) Network access: These machines need to be able to reach the SharePoint server using a browser. Most common setup involves exposing the SharePoint server using a public IP/Port. Another common way to do this is to require these machines to VPN into an internal network (most common for employees remoting in from home) 2) Authentication: You can enable anonymous access but since you want to use versioning, the recommended approach would be to ensure that these users have domain credentials to log-in. Again if these are employees using their home machines, they can simply use their domain/user/pass from any machine that can access the SharePoint instance.Pranav Sharma SharePoint Consultant, Portal Solutions

You most definitly can, that's the actual point of SharePoint. To provide a centralized location for your data and access it from anywhere: domain computers, iphones, windows phones, all phones, tablets, home computers, etc.... All you need is to make sure you can reach the server from these devices, which has nothing to do with sharepoint but everything to do with networking and dns. Benjamin Niaulin
