We have not applied the June our August skip cumulative updates. Can we go directly to the October cumulative updates?

Hi Scott, Yes, generally... Cumulative updates include all updates that broadly affect support issues that have been released since the last service pack. Since December 2008, cumulative updates have become truly cumulative, and are released on schedule every two months. Service packs include all of the updates for SharePoint Products and Technologies (that is, all hotfixes and cumulative updates, but not the SPLock hotfixes ). They also deliver important stability and performance improvements that might not have been requested specifically by customers, but were found internally by the product group. These improvements incorporate further enhancements to user security http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff431685.aspx -IvanIvan Sanders My LinkedIn Profile, My Blog, @iasanders.

I agree to Ivan. Wanted to add this to be more clear on the patching process Assume the following update releases (it just an assumption) Cumulative Upadte (CU) Oct-10 CU Dec-10 CU Feb-11 Service Pack 1 Apr-11 CU Jun-11 CU Aug-11 CU Oct-11 Assume that you are still running with RTM version of product till Nov 2011 and now you decide that there are some issue which are fixed in Oct-11 CU. The right approach to apply the patch would be first apply SP1 and then direclty apply Oct-11 CU. Sameer Dhoot My Blog : http://sharemypoint.in/

> Assume that you are still running with RTM version of product till Nov 2011 This answer - "Service Pack 1 Apr-11" for instance - assumes he is asking about SP 2010. This is the forum for pre-2010 questions so if he is asking about SP 2010 he's in the wrong place so I think we can assume he is in fact asking about MOSS 2007 (or WSS 3.0) which also has cumulative dates.2010 Books: SPF 2010; SPS 2010; SPD 2010; InfoPath 2010; Workflow etc. 2007 Books: WSS 3.0; MOSS 2007; SPD 2007; InfoPath 2007; PerformancePoint; SSRS; Workflow Both lists also include books in French; German; Spanish with even more languages in the 2007 list.

Mike, This would be true for 2007 and 2010, what i wanted to assert was that while applying any CU the correct process should be Latest SP + Latest CU Sameer Dhoot My Blog : http://sharemypoint.in/ Did I answer your question? If YES, Mark as Answer. If NO, reply with details to continue dialogue.
