Can only log into sharepoint with system account after restore
I recently had to restore my SP site due to hardware failure. I used stsadm -o restore to do it, and it looks like everything is there. The one issue I've had post-restore is that I/users cannot log in with any account other than the system admin (administrator). Users (Active directory users with corresponding user accts in sharepoint) cannot log in. I tried stsadm -o setsitelock -url http:// ..... -lock none, and reset iis and reboot, but it did not correct the issue. All my users are in the people& groups section, and are all there with the correct permissions (And my users are active in my active directory too). I can only log in with username = administrator, and it shows up as SHAREPOINT\system. It says "welcome system account" on the top... Any ideas on how to rectify this? Thanks, Dave

Is this MOSS or WSS? How did you rebuild? A. Reinstall the product on new servers becuase of a hardware fail?B.Fix the hardware and restore to the same server?Things to try... A.From SQL Managemenet Studio and make sure the admin account or (Farm admin)is the owner of all the db's attached to the farm. B. When in Central Admin (if MOSS) can you access the User Profile page in the Shared Service Provider Admin? - If so re-sync your MicrosoftAD with yout SSP. C. Run stsadm -o sync D. In Service on Windows Server look for SharePoint and look at the user account running the farm.. Is it SHAREPOINT\system? Assuming the name of your server is SharePoint..... If so what should it be?Can you replease report back on this.... Thanks Kris Wagner Kris Wagner, MCITP, MCTS Twitter @sharepointkris Blog: http://sharepointkris.com

Hi Kris, Thanks for the reply. It MOSS. I rebuilt using stsadm -o restore from a backup created using stsadm. The hardware failure was on a different machine, and I changed servers. If I try to log in with any user account it simply doesn't accept my password and gives me a 401 Unauthorized page. A. In SQL mgmt studio, it looks like the admin acct is the dbowner. Is it possible that I'm missing the "users" or SSO database? I don't see it... B. I can access everything in central admin, but can only log in as "system account" (when I log in with administrator). I did an AD sync, it said it succeeded for all the users, but some of the groups it said "The directory property cannot be found in the cache". Reset iis, no dice, still can't log in. C. Operation completed successfully. Reset iis/reboot. Nothing. D. The name of my server is not sharepoint. The sharepoint services running on the machine are logging on as the local system account, my domain administrator, or "Local Service" I tried the "unlock" a second time -> stsadm -o -setsitelock -url http://myurl -lock none. Reset/reboot...nothing. Thanks in advance for your help. Take care, Dave

Hi Dave, I currently exactly the same problem as you reported, also due to restore after hardware failure - I notice no resolution was ever posted here but if you did resolve this I'd be grateful for some details! I can access my web application but only when logged in to the server and as ' System Account'. Any other users, which I can see listed in my application (under People & Groups), even site collection administrators receive 'Access Denied'. Thanks, Barry
