Can not reach Sharepoint Central Admin site from web server
I'm hoping someone has ran into this. First, I'm not able to reach my Sharepoint Central Admin site from my web server. It's a test environment with one web server, one index server and one SQL server. I can get to the Central Admin site from the index server however. When I launch "Sharepoint 3.0 Central Administrationa", it only works from the index server. When launched from the web server, it gives me a crazy popup for saving a file named the same as the hostname. Secondly, from my desktop I can only reach my "Mysites" website and not my Admin or any SSP web sites. It's really crazy but there's got to be something I'm missing obviously. Hopefully, someone's seen this before. Any help or clues you have is much appreciated. Thanks, Todd

Thank you for reaponding and attempting to give me some assistance. I have a little more info now. First, I'm getting "404 - file or directory not found" from the IE during my attempt to reach the URL (All SSP web applications other than "Mysite"). I'm also seeing errors 6398, 7076, and 6482 in the application log on the web server in the farm. They all refer to a "Access Denied" errors. I'm making sure my setspn commands were executed correctly and confirming the accounts associated with the application pools for the web applications. I've also logged in with service accounts to verify I have the correct password. I'm seeing a "Access Denied" error in the Sharepoint logs as well. All of this I've just discovered this morning. Here's a question. When you create a new web application, are you suppose to get some kind of default page? That's what I'm expecting or do you have to create a page somehow? Really a newby at this. Thanks, ToddTodd Hollinger

I'm now past my questions from prior posts and realize just how "clueless" I was. Now I have the following challenge in front of me. I've just created a test server in the same domain as my production server. My question is can I just restore by backups from the production server to my new development server? Will the links convert to point to the development server if imported from the Production server. Ex. will site \\serverprod\mysites now be \\serverdev\mysites if I just take the database and import it? Thanks, ToddTodd Hollinger

Yes, it will work but it is not importing the DB, it is attaching the DB to the SQL server on your dev, no problem at this, should work fine.Mai Omar | Senior Solutions Developer | ITEgyptCorp | MCP, MCTS, MCPD, MCITP & MCT Microsoft Certified Trainer | Email: mai_omar_86@live.com | Blog: http://maiomar.itegyptcorp.com
