Can not install webpart on WSS3.0 for an serious error ?
Hi all, I'm new on installation about WebPart. Somehow, today, when I reinstall the webpart and get an error: "An object of the type Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPSolution named "mysimplewebpart.wsp" already exists under the parent Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPFarm named "SharePoint_Config_SP2". Rename your object or delete the existing object." So I can not install with this. I removed this last time already and now somehow I reinstall and get an error. Now I do not remember to do what on my machine ? I only remember I deleted some feature folders and assemblies manually before. Maybe that's a reason ? Could you please to let me know why ? I think we can use Command line for this. But I do not find out yet. Thanks, StandleyNguyen.

Hi, Patrick Tisseghem has the best MSDN http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb530301(office.12).aspx article on the constraints of updating solutions, there are issues you should know about....... You can retract a solution that delivers Web Parts by using one of the previously mentioned options. However, you should notice that retracting the Web Part does not remove the .webpart entry from the Web Part gallery. As a consequence, the Web Part remains advertised in the Add a Web Part dialog box, and users can still see it. However, when users add the Web Part to a page, errors are shown because the Web Part is no longer registered as a safe control, and the assembly is removed from either the local bin folder or the global assembly cache. Also notice that retracting a Web Part solution causes existing Web Part instances to stop working and displays an error in the SharePoint pages. To solve this, you can have a deactivation callout that deletes the .webpart file from the Web Part Gallery Reference Stsadm –o deletesolution http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc261929(office.12).aspx stsadm –o addsolution http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263162(office.12).aspx stsadm –o retractsolution http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc261799(office.12).aspx stsadm -0 upgradesolution http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262014(office.12).aspx -Ivan Ivan Sanders My LinkedIn Profile, My Blog, @iasanders.
