Can an SQL 2000 DTS package copy flat file data to SQL 2012 database tables?
As a very novice user of SQL for many years I have an important migration question for anyone that might help us. We currently have a working system using two versions of SQL on two machines with a firewall between them, that update new information into specific tables(flat files) from an SQL 2000 (server-1)using a DTS job and would like to know; If our SQL 2005(server-2) ONLY - is upgraded to SQL 2012 will it still function? Server-1 (SQL 2000) pushes an hourly update on multiple tables (flat files within two existing databases on both servers) to Server-2 (SQL 2005) using a scheduled DTS service (as a scheduled job in Agent) located on Server-1. Can Server-2 only - be upgraded with the same databases and logins as a new SQL 2012 machine and re-establish a DTS connection with these databases and tables from Server-1 as-is with only SQL 2000 running the DTS jobs. What would be the logical way if this would not work? Is an upgrade to SQL 2005 or 2008 absolutely required to communicate with SQL 2012? Please let me know, and thanks in advance.

DTS is no longer supported in SSIS 2012, SQL Server 2008 and 2005 still support the DTS 2000Arthur My Blog

So 2005 using SSIS is the minimum level of connectivity onto 2012 ?

Bear in mind that SQL Server 2005 is too old to consider upgrading to and if I am not mistaken you can no longer buy the licenses for it.Arthur My Blog
