Can Site Columns Lookup Custom List Name?
Hi All, I'm working in Sharepoint 2007, I wanted to create a Site Columns where it similar with choices field, and lookup all the Custom List Name from current site. For example: I have Custom List A, B, C & D in current site, and then I have another Custom List E, it consist of a Site Columns lookup all the Custom List Name (A, B, C, & D) as choices. Site Columns Lookup Type can only lookup value from another columns. Any idea how this can be work? Is Business Data Log able to do this? Please give some idea or suggestion, thank you in advanced.

HI, If the the List A , B, C, and D are in the Same Site then , In the List E when you are adding the Lookup column from another list, for example List A, The list name will be given in a dropdown to select. once the list name is selected, All the column names are listed in the second drop down. Along with that all the source list name will be displayed with the checkbox to add the additional column to display as part of the view. In this way all the list A,B, C and D can be made as lookup column in the list E. In E it is just just up column only and not allowed to make any data changed. When any item is changed in the source list automatically the values will be updated to the target list (List E). Regards

Hi Nehruraj, Thank you for your reply, do you mean create a Lookup column in List E? I dont understand what do you mean by "ll the source list name will be displayed with the checkbox to add the additional column to display as part of the view", as I know Lookup column is able to lookup from single list, where is the checkbox to add additional column you meant?

Hi sams371, The column type look up is defined to look up columns in other list, it is not possible to look up list name in lists group out of the box. In this situation, if you need to look up the list name, you may consider creating a list to store the custom list name you want to lookup, however this need to be done manually, then look up the list name column in this new created list. Hi sams371, Thanks for posting back. Since we need to look up the custom list name and look up field is for list item, I mean to create a list (ListA, store custom list name), make custom list name as a column, this column can be looked up for custom list name, add items to the ListA to store the custom list names, if has new custom list, then add the new item to the ListA, this is not by programming. Thanks, Qiao Wei

Hi Qiao Wei, Yes, this is one of the solution, but there it is not practical, since whenever a new custom list is created, user need to manually add the new custom list name into ListA, if there are human error during the adding of custom list name, it might lead to data inconsistency. Thank you.
