Can SCCM pick up Switches?
Hi, Is it possible for SCCM to either pick up switches automatically or to enter them into SCCM somewhere? Thank you, Nick

Yes it is possible for SCCM network discovery to pick up your switches. Have you taken a look at network discovery? The switches themselveswill get discovered usingnetwork discovery, assuming theIP Subnet informationcan be validated using the arp cache of the router, DHCP, SNMP, etc. In my experience, most of the times this information is kept in the router's ARP cache but is aged out before network discovery has has an opportunity to find it and often prevents the switches/network printers and other network devices from being properly discovered. There are a number of other items to consider if you are look into network discovery. It mostly comes down to identifying the IP Subnet information for the given device and whether that can be done. There is also a tool available from Enhansoft called Enhanced Network Device Discovery which might help you get more coverage on discovery of your switches. Do you have SNMP turned on in your environment?HTH,-MattMatthew Tinney mtinney@windowsmanagementexperts.com www.windowsmanagementexperts.com (206) 778 4432

Hi NickWhy would you want to have information about those devices in ConfigMgr? You can't really do anything with the information.Kent Agerlund | http://scug.dk/members/Agerlund/default.aspx | The Danish community for System Center products
