Can RSClientPrint 2005 and 2008 Active X controls coexist on user machine and work?
We're in the process of standing up a new RS 2008 R2 instance in our corporate environment. We have an existing RS 2005 SP3 instance, and we're planning to allow teams to migrate their reports as needed over to the new 2008 instance instead of doing a forced march migration. However, when testing printing from 2005 vs 2008 Report Manager, the dreaded "Unable to load resource library" RSClientPrint ActiveX control issue has reared its ugly head. I can get either the RSClientPrint 2005 or RSClientPrint 2008 controls working on my machine, but not both. When I install the 2008 control, the 2005 report print action generates the "Unable to load Client Print control" error and have to remove all traces of the 2005 RSClientPrint files before the 2008 reports will work. I cannot believe that these two cannot coexist, so there must be something special that needs to be done I'm not aware of. Browser is IE 7 (we're an enterprise, we don't upgrade as often) if that matters, OS is Windows XP (again, enterprise, I don't make the rules). Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi, Yes. We can install both RSClientPrint control 2005 and RSClientPrint control 2008 on the same client, and it won't cause conflict. Generally, we just need to go the Report Manager 2005, open a report, and then click "Print" button. Then, do the same thing in Report Manager 2008. After that, both the two versions will be installed on the same client. For the "Unable to load client print control" issue, it could be caused the RSClientPrint 2005 control has been updated after the Report Server 2005 got updated. I would suggest you refer to the thread http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/sqlreportingservices/thread/57e97395-fffe-4329-9f63-e15632246cd4 For more information about Error “Unable to load client print control” when printing reports in Reporting Services, please refer to the MSDN blog http://blogs.msdn.com/b/mariae/archive/2010/04/13/error-unable-to-load-client-print-control-when-printing-reports-in-reporting-services-summary-of-all-possible-causes-at-april-2010.aspx If there is anything unclear, please feel free to ask.
