Can I use my Current Production SQL Server 2008 R2 Machine for SharePoint 2013 databases?

Hi,

I am looking at upgrading to SharePoint 2013 and wanted to know if I could use our current production SQL server for the SharePoint 2013 databases?

Our current 2008 R2 SQL server does not host any SharePoint DB's at the moment but it is practical to use it for SharePoint as well?

The Sharepoint 2010 install we have currently is a single farm install with a built in database.

Thanks.

Either of these will work:

  • One of the following:

    • The 64-bit edition of Microsoft SQL Server 2012.

    • The 64-bit edition of SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1
