Can't open Word & Excel files in MOSS2007
Hello, Starting 2 days ago, my users can't open Excel and Word documents that contain spaces in their name (and of course 90% of the documents contains spaces :-( ). Everything else is OK (PDFs, etc). What is interesting if you rename the files and eliminate the spaces or replaced them with any character (My Files.doc renamed to My_File.doc for example) then everything is fine, we can open and then save them. However I can't ask the users to do that for all documests (zillions :-). We are using MOSS2007 on a single server Win 2003 R2 Std x64 with a separate SQL 2005 cluster. I spent 4h otp with Microsoft premier support but no luck. Anybody experienced the same issue? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you Cristian

I don't know the answer to why they won't open but if it continues, you could write a small console app that goes through and swaps out all the spaces with underscores for document libraries. Should only take a few hours or so. Hope that helps, SharePointNinja

Thanks for replay. What is more interesting, after I open and close them, if I rename them back with spaces everything is OK. I think I am giving up and ask the users to deal with this on a case by case basis. Tell them the workaround and that's all since not all documents are having the issue.

hello when such situation occurs, i.e. when something related with Office integration stopped working without visible reason, you should check all recent updates, patches, service packs, etc. - i.e. all changes in your configuration. We had situation when changing of one unrelated (at first look) option in ISA server prevented users to upload and save Office documents into Sharepoint document libraries (I don not completely remember what exactly option caused it).
