Can't open SSP - The DataSourceID of 'QuickLaunchMenu' must be the ID of a control of type IHierarchicalDataSource.
Hi all, We suddently can't open our SSP. We just get the following error message which makes no sense at all since we haven't modified the SSP at all: The DataSourceID of 'QuickLaunchMenu' must be the ID of a control of type IHierarchicalDataSource. A control with ID 'QuickLaunchSiteMap' could not be found. at System.Web.UI.WebControls.HierarchicalDataBoundControl.GetDataSource() at System.Web.UI.WebControls.HierarchicalDataBoundControl.ConnectToHierarchicalDataSource() at System.Web.UI.WebControls.HierarchicalDataBoundControl.OnLoad(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) Any idea what this might be? Thanks,Christoffer

Try rebooting the server and see if it goes away -- I know it sounds silly. Also, if you don't have a lot of specific settings in your SSP -- if rebooting doesn't fix your issue you could always create a new one.John SharePoint911: SharePoint Consulting http://www.rossonmoss.com MOSS Explained: An Information Workers Deep Dive into Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007

Hi all, As expected, the issue had nothing to do with the quicklaunchmenu :). Theproblewas that a Telerik RADEditor solution was deployed to all content web applications, includingthe SSP. The solution added a few lines of safecontrols to the SSP web application, which doesn't have the prerequisite AJAX extensions setup. Removing those lines solved the issue. Thanks,Christoffer

whoo, thanks a lot! It helped me 2. I've had the same problem, deployed the MOSSRadEditor and suddenly I couldn't access my SSP configuration settings anymore...

I'm having the same issue here and it appears there are two solutions related to the modification of the web.config file for my Central Admin site. Which is the 'better' solution? Remove the lines Add additional lines Could someone be more specific about which lines to remove and which to add? I see 7 entries currently related to RAD in the <SafeControls> section but the post above mentions 2 to be removed with option 1. <SafeControl Assembly="Telerik.Web.UI, Version=2009.2.701.20, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=121fae78165ba3d4" Namespace="Telerik.Web.UI" TypeName="*" Safe="True" /> <SafeControl Assembly="Telerik.Web.UI, Version=2009.2.701.20, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=121fae78165ba3d4" Namespace="Telerik.Web.UI.Editor" TypeName="*" Safe="True" /> <SafeControl Assembly="Telerik.Web.UI, Version=2009.2.701.20, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=121fae78165ba3d4" Namespace="Telerik.Web.UI.Widgets" TypeName="*" Safe="True" /> <SafeControl Assembly="Telerik.Web.UI, Version=2009.2.701.20, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=121fae78165ba3d4" Namespace="Telerik.Web.Design" TypeName="*" Safe="True" /> <SafeControl Assembly="RadEditorSharePoint, Version=5.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=1f131a624888eeed" Namespace="Telerik.SharePoint" TypeName="*" Safe="True" /> <SafeControl Assembly="RadEditorSharePoint, Version=5.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=1f131a624888eeed" Namespace="Telerik.SharePoint.FieldEditor" TypeName="*" Safe="True" /> <SafeControl Assembly="RadEditorSharePoint, Version=5.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=1f131a624888eeed" Namespace="Telerik.SharePoint.ListFieldEditor" TypeName="*" Safe="True" /> How would the additional lines be formatted? <dependentAssembly> <assemblyIdentity name="System.Web.Extensions" publicKeyToken="71e9bce111e9429c" culture="neutral" /> <bindingRedirect oldVersion="1.0.0.0" newVersion="3.5.0.0" /></dependentAssembly> <dependentAssembly> <assemblyIdentity name="System.Web.Extensions.Design" publicKeyToken="71e9bce111e9429c" culture="neutral" /> <bindingRedirect oldVersion="1.0.0.0" newVersion="3.5.0.0" /></dependentAssembly> As always, thanks for your help. - Michaelmrw

Hello Just heads up, sometimes my solution above may seem not working. if it is the case, the missing piece is removing Telerik WSP manually using STSAdmin, Stsadm.exe -o deletesolution <filename>YeeMomo
