Can't edit in Datasheet View
I have a user in my site collection who cannot edit a list in Datasheet view. When he tries to make an edit he gets the following error: "The Web application at filepath.aspx?ShowInGrid=TrueView={long ID number} could not be found. Verify that you have typed the URL correctly. If the URL should be serving existing content, the system administrator may need to add a new request URL mapping to the intended application." Other site Members with access to this list do not experienced this behavior. Can anyone advise me what to look for? Hi, This post goes through a lot of issues related to the DataSheet view: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointadmin/thread/472eeff8-3af0-4293-9f97-d0c5b26ace5e The most likely solution is running the Microsoft Office Diagnostics. That seems to solve this issue most of the time. Here's a url for the diagnostic tools: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/help/diagnose-and-repair-crashing-office-programs-by-using-office-diagnostics-HA001234076.aspx Brianblog: http://brianhochgurtel.blogspot.com MCTS SharePoint 2007 Administration and Development

Brian - if the user only has trouble on this one list is that still a problem that can be fixed by Office Diagnostics? He doesn't have this trouble on other sites. And he can edit it in the normal editform.aspx page. There are no mistakes; every result tells you something of value about what your are trying to accomplish.

That's one I haven't come across before. With users I worked with none of the datasheet views on any site would work for them. However the Office Diagnositics tool has done magic for me in the past, so it may be worth a shot for your user. It's very odd that it's a problem only for this one list. Need to clarify. The user cannot edit ANY Lists in the site in this manner. He can in other site collections. There are no mistakes; every result tells you something of value about what your are trying to accomplish.

Hi, Is the user able to edit the record using the default SharePoint List UI? If the user is getting an error while editing a record using Datasheet and SharePoint List UI, this can be a permission issue. Is the User permissions same across both the site collections? Are there any errors in the SharePoint Log files or in the eventvwr? Can you check this thread http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointadmin/thread/2744888b-9f39-442e-89b3-73c1df10f702 Thanks, Skancharla

Yes, the user can edit the item in EditForm.aspx User is member of Members Group in both site collections I explained the error in my initial post above. I don't have access to log files. There are no mistakes; every result tells you something of value about what your are trying to accomplish.

Hi, The error message what you posted in the post is generic message which gets displayed through Object Model code or web services. To resolve the issue, I think we need to get the exact error message. Thanks, Skancharla

Hi, You can probably find the error in one of the following 1) Event Viewer 2) SharePoint Logs (12 hives\Log) 3) SQL logs on the SQL Server. Thanks, Skancharla
