Can't create site collection
Hello, I installed Sharepoint MOSS 2007 on windows 2008 SP2 (1 server SQL2008 +1 web server Moss2007). I got some probleme creating a top level site collection. - Throught central admin I tried on different webapp to create site collection but got "unkown error" msg displayed. - When I tried via stsadm I can manage to get the right syntax: always got a message: the site <url> is actually used as a substitution access URL or is a top level site. Choose another url. I tape something like stsadm -o createsite -url http://svs10sp001:82 -owneremail name@domain.ch -ownerlogin domain\spfarm -sitetemplate STS#0 -title "DL" -hostheaderwebapplicationurl http://svs10sp001:82 I tried to replace -url by: http://svs10sp001:82/ http://svs10sp001:82/Sites/ http://svs10sp001:82/Sites/DL For the 2 last one it says that the url can not contain path. There is nothing in windows event log nor in 12\log. Thank you for your help!! Good day!!

You need to create a new web application in Central Admin before trying to create a site collection for it. That's what the message is telling you. Alternatively, you can do it via the UI in Central Admin. After creating the new Web App, SharePoint will give you a link for creating the new site collection. I trust that answers your question...ThanksChttp://www.cjvandyk.com/blog

Remember to run IIS reset after you create a web app and before you create site collections.Kevin
