I have a top level site that was created using the Publishing template. I have created a Team site as a subsite. I wanted to activate the Publishing features on this site but received this message: One or more features must be turned on before this feature can be activated. Can publishing features be activated on a site that did not use the Publishing template when it was created? I'm trying to get a better grasp on when to use the Publishing template and features. There are no mistakes; every result tells you something of value about what your are trying to accomplish.

Try this before: If you are not at the root of your site, under Site Collection Administration, click Go to top level site settings. On the Site Settings page, under Site Collection Administration, click Site collection features. On the Site Collection Features page, next to Office SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure, click Activate. SergeSerge
