CPU Utilization Alers not being generated
Hello: I have noitced that I am not receiving any high CPU utilization alert/emails from SCOM. Though my BES and File server is showing 100% processor utilization when I logon to those servers and check? How and where can I see the the settings for this? I do receive high memory usage alert emails though. Advise Please. Thank you.

Go to he Health Explorer> Performance >Operating System Performance Rollup> Perfromance - Microsooft Windows Server > Total CPU Utilization. Right Clik on it > Monitor Properties > Overides > Overide... The config of this monitor is: The Total CPU Utilization monitoring routine is a high configurable solution that enables Operators to set threshold values for both the System\Processor Queue and the Processor\% Processor Time\_Total performance counters. When values for both counters have exceeded the defined thresholds for several consecutive samples a state change will occur for the monitor. Parameter Default Value CPUQueueLengthThreshold 15 CPUPercentageThreshold 95 NumSamples 3

greyed in scom... worst thing... you agent has some problems. To fix the agents the fastet way is : stop System Center Operation Service. Delete the Folder Health Service from the installation path of the SCOM agent. In general it shoud be C:\Program Files\System Center Operation Manager\ start the stoped service. If this does not turn the Status of the agent in any other coller then Gray.. is bad.. you need to check the Event Log from the server. Where you select the detination best practice is create a new one ;) DO NOT save the data in the default one you will have big troubles in the future.

Thanks All. @Adrian: Sorry, let me re-phrase .... it is greyed out because overrides are not selected and it does let me select it. I will create a new MP for Windows Server 20087 and use that for override. I think it will lot let me modify the exisitng ones since they are sealed.

ah.. ok.. Yes.. is ok to create a new MP that contains the overites for each MP imported. In this way it will be easyer to track them and also for future changes.. If all is ok now.. good luck with other study ;)

Adrian: As per your advise I created a new Windows 2008 MP applied the override to my BES server and left all the values default and enabled them and applied them but i am still not getting any alerts emails and dont even see any warn/err alerts for BES in the SCOM Admin Console either??? When I logon to my BES server CPU is 100% used. Can I uninstall the SCOM agent and reinstall on BEServer???? Advise Please.

What overide did you set for CPUQueueLengthThreshold ? Check in perfon on the local server the CPUQueueLengthThreshold, you find the counter in the Object System>Performance Queue Length. For a try you could set CPUQueueLengthThreshold overide to 0 and the CPUPercentageThreshold overide to 90 let`s say.. see if you get an alert! Yes.. you could allways reinstall the agent.. but i do not think that is the fault!

Adrian: Changed CPUQueueLengthThreshold overide to 0 and the CPUPercentageThreshold overide to 90 It worked :) .....on this BEServer. How do I apply these same settings for all the Windows 2008/Windows2003 Servers. Advsie Please. Thanks Much!!!

When you clik Overide you can select: For a Objectl For all objects of a class; For a group; For a specific object of class: ... so pick what you need. For all objects of a class => All Operating system PS: If you get to many alerts.. change the overides for example increase the CPUQueueLengthThreshold or something else.. PS: if you realy want to get some knowldge.. check the MS Virtual Labs regarding to SCOM.. theny can help you
