CM Client automatically downgrades on just one client computer

Hi all,

I'm having a very strange issue with the CM Client version for just 1 client (so far).
I deployed the latest CM client (R2 CU4, 1501) to all my x86 and x64 clients.
They all upgraded succesfully, but for some reason after some time just 1 client automatically downgrades back to 1000 (R2).

I have to mention that that one client also has the CM Console installed, which is also the latest version (R2 CU4, 1501).

What's the best and fastest way to troubleshoot this?

Cheers

Hi,

I would start with checking the log files locally for when it happend, CCMSetup.log, CCMRepari.log, CCMeval.log and the event log and start from there.

Okay,

So now I made a collection with a direct rule for that one client and deployed the R2 CU4 x64 Client Update (Always Rerun, ASAP) package.
It installed succesfully so I deleted the deployment for that one client.

Now I'll just wait and see what happens in the local client logs with CMTrace I suppose?

Thanks

In the CCMsetup.log on the client in the C:\Windows\ccmsetup\Logs folder I can see that it receives a ForceInstall for ccmsetup.exe ...

It detects : Detected client version 5.00.7958.1501 from WMI
But it still installs the 1000: Params to send FSP message '5.0.7958.1000 Deployment '
Also strange that the retrieved site version from the AD is 1000: Retrived site version '5.00.7958.1000' from AD for site 'sitename'

Maybe some issues with SCCM publishing updates to the AD? Like site version etc.?
I also saw I still had deployments for 1401 active for the same collections I deployed 1501 to.
But they we're already compliant. I don't think this is the issue as it downgrades all the way back to 1000.
Nevertheless I deleted those client deployments for 1401 and I'll see if it helps.

Any other advice on how to find the source of this sudden downgrade?

Cheers

From the statemessages I can see that each 5 hours the Client for Configuration Manager gets deleted and reinstalled. Strange because I couldn't find an interval of 5 hours anywhere in my configuration settings.

On the client I found a task in the Windows Task Scheduler: Configuration Manager Retry Task which is scheduled each 5 hours to do a force reinstall of the C:\Windows\ccmsetup\ccmsetup.exe

Anyhow, I deleted the task manually and also the folders it was in because it was also nested wrong.
The task was not with the other CM tasks (Health Check and Idle Detection ...)

I'll keep this post updated if it sorts out this way.

Cheers

Yes, I know this is an old post, but Im trying to clean them up. Did you solve this problem, if so what was the solution?

Since no one has answer this post, I recommend opening  a support case with Microsoft Customer Support Services (CSS) as they can work with you to solve this problem.
