By View ignored in Alerts
WSS 3.0
I set up a view which filters by a Choice column. The view correctly filters items from the list and shows only one result.
I set up an alert that has
Change Type: Existing items are modified
Send alerts for these changes is set to Someone changes in the following view; noting the correct view above.
Despite this, if I change an item that does NOT appear in the view I describe above, I still get an alert. What gives?

Alerts are per List not per View. All changes made to the List therefore produce an alert.

What version of SharePoint are you working with? I tested on my system (12.0.0.6529)
a custom list with a choice column and a view filtering on the choice column (no content approval involved). The alert on the view work as expected.

I am using 12.0.0.6039.
This used to work just fine. I don't really know when it stopped working, since not many users were taking advantage of the feature. I recently encouraged them to start using it and per Murphy's Law, something is wrong.

It certainly looks that way as that fix
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3ben-us%3b978396
takes you to build 12.0000.6529.5000 which (.6529) is the release that GuYuming said he was using and where it worked.

P.S. The description of that fix pack
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978389/ doesn't however include any mention of Views + Alerts (although it does include some Alert fixes)

The good news is that I now no longer get alerts on every single change, regardless of filters in view.
The bad news is, the column I'm filtering on is a multi-pick list, and I'm filtering on just one value.
If I multi-pick the filtered value AND a non-filtered value, the list item
WILL appear in the view but WILL NOT send an alert if the item is modified.
If I exclusively choose the filtered value, the list item WILL
appear in the view and WILL send an alert if the item is modified.
I'll have to do some thinking about how to resolve this. The column needs to be multiple select.
