Browsing through Windows Explorer is slow.
Hello, I'm having issues with Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0.
Server is Windows Server 2008 R2
Clients: Windows 7, and Windows XP
When Windows 7 client connect to Site using Windows Explorer there is quite a bit of delay before the files can be browsed. Uploading files, opening new files, and creating files are all generally slow.
On the Windows XP machine it is quite a bit faster.
There are no issues with browsing the site, pinging the server, or accessing the files. It is just a performance issues.
Thank you,
Walter

Hi Walter,
I think you are pointing at the "explorer view" functionality in MOSS, which relies on WebDAV (XP or above) or Webfldrs (XP clients).
This is a known issue. The solution differs per situation and/or configuration. Please read the following article first for understanding Explorer View
link
There is a
hotfix available for using webfolders. Please let me know if it helped.

Hi Walter,
I had the same problem.
Disable the ‘automatically detect settings’ in IE8 on Windows 7 solved my problem.
(Tools->Internet Options->Connections->LAN Settings)

Hello,
Thank you, Taking off the proxy auto detect settings has made it somewhat better.

This hotifx is only applicable to server 2003, Windows Xp and Windows Vista. I am using Windows Server 2008 R2 with Windows 7, so as a result it didn't help me.
Thank you anyways,
Walter

Hi Walter,
Are there Firewalls involved in your infrastructure, such as ISA server? In that case the configuration of these could be part of the performance degradation since they handle protocol traffic. Please post some more details on how your environment is set
up. Also verify if users actually see the WebDav version of Webfolders version of the Explorer View. This could lead you to more detail on what functionality is working/not working. Webfolders is also 'switched' on automatically if WebDav Explorer View functionality
is being 'blocked'
