Browse button in a list for Hyperlink or Picture type?
First, the problem I'm trying to solve is: 1. List A contains various metadata about people. One of these is a link to a document. 2. Library B contains the documents referenced by List A. 3. There is a one-to-many relationship between a document and people. I.e. several items in List A can refer to the same document in List B. In a CEWP when you create a link on some text, you are presented with a popup window containing a Selected URL box. You can either paste a URL in there, or click the Browse button to browse your Sharepoint lists and libraries, and link to a Sharepoint item that way. For a list, I see the "Hyperlink or Picture" type, but you can only paste a URL in there. Admit it, making the user browse Library B and copy a URL, then come to the list and paste it, is a lame solution. (But apparently MVP-sanctioned, e.g. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointgeneral/thread/1f4bccd2-2795-408e-945f-703763e56527) . We're talking hundreds of documents, so avoiding a copy/paste party would be highly desirable. Using attachments is possible, except that we'd be attaching the same document to several people in some cases. Thus if that document were to change, that would be sort of painful to figure out. Also the docs would need to be uploaded from the file system, as you can't browse a doc library with the attachment GUI. This might not be a problem in my case, I'm not sure. Using a lookup field that sources Library B is possible, but again - hundreds of documents. That's one long drop down. Also the result is a link to the doc's properties (DispForm) page, so it takes another click to get to the document itself. Lame lame lame. So is there a way to create a custom field type that mimics the rich text editor's link functionality? I think that would be ideal. Maybe one of the 3rd party solutions I came across could work, I'd just rather do it myself if it's not too complicated.

Not meaning to insult MVPs or anything, just saying that's the stock answer with the oob product. Which might be fine in lots of cases, just not mine.
