Boot images and OS deployment problem
Hi, Recently my task sequences fail with the following error: Windows PE cannot start because the actual SYSTEMROOT directory (X:\windows) is different from the configured one (X:\$windows.~bt\Windows). This can be configured from dism.exe with the /set-targetpath command. Please consult the documentation for more details. It happened after I changed the x86 boot image to another , then I changed it back to the original one. Anyway, I created a new deploy media and I get the attached error without even get the screen I should type the password to get the task sequences list. Should I create a new capture media and capture images again in order to get everything work again? Thanks!

normally you'd see that error if you are using a boot.wim from the deploy media instead of using those provided by the installed WAIK, are you sure your task sequence is using the correct boot image. My step by step SCCM Guides I'm on Twitter > ncbrady

You won't need to capture the images again. As Niall said, when you created a new boot image did you change the image the task sequence is using. You could just create a new boot image from the source \\SiteServer\sms_SiteCodee\OSD\boot and uploaded it to you Images$ DP and change the task sequence to use this new Boot image. Blair Muller

Thanks a lot Niall and Blair:) Before I asked the question, I changed the boot image to the one from WAIK , but still got the error. However, when I updated the distribution point I saw that the package version didn't change! Then I figured out that because I just pressed the OK button on the Win PE tab on boot image properties, actually nothing happened because it didn't change the WIM file that was on the distribution point. When I pressed apply, it mounted the image , made the changes and really updated it on the distribution point. Still can't believe I spent so many time to understand it:P
