Boot from USB or deploy from USB uses Staging image instead of Applying image
Deploying Windows 7 x86 from PXE the task sequence when it gets to applying the SYSTEM and OS images downloads the images and then shows applying image, then does the rest of the stuff like finding drivers. It then reboots and everything is fine. When I use the SCCM USB boot or a captured task sequence on USB the task sequence shows staging image, then reboots and does applying image. Unfortunately the reboot cause a problem because the drive mappings are no longer correct, and as a result a patch I'm applying to the SCCM agent fails. Is there any way to get the Apply image to work the same way for USB boot as for PXE boot?Bob

What service pack level of ConfigMgr are you on? What drive letter are you expecting to be there and what patch are you refering to?Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/jsandys/default.aspx | Twitter @JasonSandys

SCCM 2007 SP2 R2. When we used the default partitions of C: for system and D: for the OS, when mini setup had completed the OS was now on C:, but the _smstasksequence path was know to the system to be on D: not the current C:. To get around that problem I assigned the system partition to S: so that after mini setup the drive letter and paths to the patch would be the same. Or in other words C: would be C: before and after mini setup. When the boot happens between staging and applying it resets the drive letters to C: for system and D: for OS, which then breaks the patch application again. Bob
