Blocking Visibilty to restricted sites
Hello AllI have a wss 3.0 site that contains a few sub sites. There are tabs that I need to block access to for some users while giving access to others. Initially when a user logs onto the home page they see only the sites they have access to. But when some users click onto a site that they have Design rights to all the site tabs appear. If they click on one they receive access denied message. How do I hide sites from users they don't have access to.Thanks

Is the navigation in your sub sites inheriting from the parent site? Also, Did you manually create the top nav tabs? If so did you do this through the SharePoint UI or SP Designer? Andrew Milsark, MCTS

Hi Curtismallett,
It’s a by-design behavior. If you go to the “Edit permission level” page of “Design” permission, you will find that the users with “Design” permission has the “Add and customize pages” permission. This permission grants users the ability to see all links so they can edit them, even if they don’t have access to the pages that those links point to.
Hope this helps.

Lu ZouThanks for clarifying this. I though likewise but needed to convince my client of that fact.
