Bizarre reporting problem. Disappearing fields.
I have a bizarre one.... Ok here it goes. I have a report that is based on a cube. It has several different datasets. On two of the dataset the problem occurs. One of the datasets has fields listed in the report data window like: CM_PC_SCIP_Count CM_PC_SCIP__ MB_CM_PC_SCIP__ A whole bunch of fields but they follow the pattern above. When I open the dataset in the query designer and execute it, everything is fine. However, I switch to mdx mode and then change one of the parameter names and then go back in the code and adjust that name and then click ok, it goes into preparing the query just as it should. However, it takes a long time and when it finishes as if everything is good, a bizarre thing has occurred. Now in the Report Data window, all the fields excet the ones that end in _Count are now gone. So only a list of _Count fields remains. I am doing the exact same process with the other three datasets and no problems. But on two of the dataset this is happenning. These two dataset have the largest number of fields but not sure if that is relevant..... Strange that it strips all the fields other than the _Count ones... But if you then click to open the query designer on that dataset again, the other fields seem to still be in the mdx query even though they don't appear in the report data window. I sure don't want to have to manually add all these missing fields back in the dataset properties window....Any ideas?

There is no quarantee that you can go back to design mode from mdx mode. If you made a "safe" change to the generated query just go ahead (not back), make it into a data set and test it. Kalman Toth, SQL Server & Business Intelligence Training; SQL 2008 Grand Slam

I didn't go back to regular query mode..... The fields disappeared from my report data window which means it also disappeared from my dataset properties/fields list....

What if you run the MDX query in Management Studio? Kalman Toth, SQL Server & Business Intelligence Training; SQL 2008 Grand Slam
