Best method to update report data
The database that I used will be updated frequently. So when user runs the report he will get updated data. This process includes connecting to database frequently which is not desired in my case. So could you please confirm me whether, 1) Report Manager (Report Snapshot + Subscription + Scheduling etc) is better option or 2) Creating cube having desired data and creating SSIS package to process that cube and schedule that package in SQL Server is better ? Thanks,

Hi Avinash, The answer to this would be more of project requirement clubbed with the maintenance part. If you go for building cube and doing an ETL to update your cube data, the maintenance would be less compared to the first approach. Because once you create cube and ETL, then you have to simply schedule it and accordingly the users would get the correct data in reports. But the initial one time effort would be more. If you go with Snapshots and subscriptions, then still you will have to manage the timing of your data refresh. You might be knowing that snapshot and subscription would capture data at a particular time slot, hence you will have to take care of scheduling when to expire cache or when to refresh. This is one of them most preferred option when you wish to generate load at off peak hrs so as to avoid heavy access at the same time. Hope this helps. Thanks.Regards, Sonal
